Solution sought to Epson Stylus Photo R800 printing problems on Vista?

Have downloaded appropriate Vista compatable drivers from Epson site but cannot get my Photo R800 printer to work with a new Dell Inspiron 531 preloaded with Vista Home Basic - it just spews out blank or very occasionally partly printed pages/photos

upgrade to windows XP and don't buy vista till service pack 2 comes out for it.
