Computer running very slow and warning messages that my pc is low on memory?

I have a HP pc that is running an AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core processor. It has 2Gb Ram. All of a sudden it has started running very slow and i am getting warnings that my computer memory is low. I have run Norton 360 to check for any viruses or other problems
