Can I use an ac-dc adapter for a laptop to power a custom built jurry-rigged computer?

I'm making a computer using spare parts i have laying around, but i want it to be easily portable. I was wondering if i could
1) use a laptop's ac-dc adapter and split wires out of it and use resistors and capacitors to power the computer's components

no, laptop power supplies run a different voltage than pc power supplies.

they typically run 15v or somewhere in that range. pc power supplies run 5v-+ and 12v-+
